Gives "Thin - Clients" Access To Modem Pools
Converging
Technologies® Modem Pooling for Microsoft Windows NT Server
4.0, Terminal Server Edition (MPTS) is an add-on software
product for the Microsoft multi-user environment. MPTS gives
"thin-clients" access to modem pools defined on
the Terminal Server, saving both time and money by eliminating
the need to reconfigure the communication application before
each session
Traditionally, when a "thin-client" uses a
communication application on the server to make an outbound
call, the user is faced with two challenges:
First, the user must know the physical location of an available
modem
Second, the user must reconfigure the application to use the
right modem
With MPTS, those worries are a thing of the past. MPTS allows
the communication application to use a "virtual"
modem (for TAPI aware apps) or a "virtual" COM port
(for other non TAPI applications). When the modem or COM port
is referenced, MPTS allocates the first available modem in
the administrator’s defined modem pool.
For example, several users can simultaneously use COM1 (the
"virtual" COM port) on the Terminal Server, and
MPTS will connect each user’s application to a different available
modem.
MPTS also supports other Terminal Server type applications.
